Homer El Mero Mero

Debuting as part of rap-battle duo Bardero$, Argentinian MC Homer El Mero Mero began building his solo career during the late 2010s; he emerged with a boom-bap sound reminiscent of rap's Golden Age before participating heavily in the upcoming RKT genre in the 2020s. Born in Neuquén in the Argentinian Patagonia, rapper Homer El Mero Mero (Lucas Darío Giménez) took a fervent interest in rap from a young age, influenced by his brother, a rapper going by the stage name Lil Troca. Working with fellow rapper C.R.O. under their joint alias Bardero$, Giménez built his name in local battle rap circuits, making particularly strong showings in MC Mustafa Yoda's A Cara De Perro series of competitions. The duo's synergy on the mike soon produced a collaborative album, Pure Drug, which released in 2016. Compelled by the tape's success, he began to write solo material under the alias of Homer El Mero Mero, issuing his debut album, Solo Negocios, in 2018. Inspired heavily by hip-hop's Golden Age, the project turned Giménez's lyricism and gruff vocals to the heavy boom-bap instrumentals of the era. In 2019, he followed this with En Punga, a similarly themed LP featuring a collaboration with fellow Argentinian battle rapper Duki. 2020 proved a productive year in the rapper's catalog, home to a second Bardero$ LP, Me Sueltan Los Ángeles, a collaborative album as part of MDBCrew, La Fiesta Es de Nosotros, and a further 15 singles. Among these was his biggest hit to date -- "BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 30" -- a collaboration with trailblazing producer Bizarrap that garnered over 20 million streams online. Strides towards Argentina's rapidly-rising RKT genre, a fusion of cumbia and modern rap sonics, began to arrive in the early 2020s: the 50-million-stream "Titubeo" saw Giménez work with scene figurehead L-Gante, quickly followed by work with DJ Tao ("Bajo El Sol"), Kaleb Di Masi ("Bandolera"), and Callejero Fino ("Pa' Tra Remix"). Despite this, the rapper remained true to his boom-bap roots on the third Bardero$ album, Inmortales, as well as third studio album El Mundo Es Tuyo (2022).
