Holy Mountain

Playing a raw, muscular fusion of psychedelia and heavy rock with epic-scale guitar work and abundant energy, the Holy Mountain are a wailing rock band hailing from Glasgow, Scotland. The Holy Mountain were formed by guitarist and vocalist Andy McGlone and drummer Pete Flett, who met at a pub and music venue in Glasgow called the Captains Rest. McGlone and Flett discovered they had similar tastes in music, and in late 2008 the Holy Mountain made their debut as a guitar-and-drum two-piece, the name borrowed from Alexandro Jodorowsky's notoriously trippy cult film of the same name. In the spring of 2010, the Holy Mountain expanded into a trio when Allan Stewart came aboard to play bass; months later, the group began work on its first album, Earth Measures. However, the album didn't see the light of day until 2012, when the Holy Mountain struck a deal with the maverick British label Chemikal Underground Records. Happily, Earth Measures received enthusiastic reviews from the underground music press, and in 2013 the Holy Mountain returned to the recording studio to begin their second album, with Graeme Smillie guesting on keyboards. An advance single, "Luftwizard" backed by a cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs," appeared in the fall of 2013, and Ancient Astronauts, the Holy Mountain's sophomore album, was released in the spring of 2014.
