Erasers

A descendant of the 1970s drone-based rock spearheaded by artists like John Cale, Erasers' circular songs ride along stoic, hypnotic patterns built from drum machine loops, analog synths, guitars, Fender Rhodes keyboards, and the deadpan vocals of Rebecca Orchard. Following a string of short-form releases, she and bandmate Rupert Thomas made their full-length debut with Stem Together in 2015. Their sound developed darker, denser textures by their third album, 2022's Constant Connection. Formed in isolated Perth, Australia, in 2009, Erasers comprises singer and synthesizer operator Rebecca Orchard and guitarist/synth player Rupert Thomas, who together adhere to minimalist song structures, repetition, and drone, at least as a common base to their songs. Experimenting with more spacious atmospheres, their first EP, Summer, appeared in January 2010, receiving a cassette release by the Solid Melts label. It was soon followed by Autumn, which was issued as a limited 7" on Metal Postcard. The murkier, home-recorded Twin Spurs, released in mid-2012 on Perth label Owls, established a heavier reliance on drone. Erasers made their Fire Talk label debut with the album-length Stem Together in September 2015. They returned with Forecast, a cassette EP for Solid Melts, in the first half of 2019 before releasing their second album, Pulse Points, on Fire Talk that July. Gradually developing a heavier, more immersive sound, Erasers' third long-player, Constant Connection, arrived on Fire Talk in April 2022.
