Chiquititas

Chiquititas began as a small segment on the Argentine Telefe, but quickly blossomed into much more, including a recording entity, stage show, and magazine. The kid-pop group released a record in August 1995 which quickly rose in popularity. Merchandising was soon to follow. A magazine bearing the name was published the same year, followed by stickers, clothing, and so on. In 1996 the group was ushered into the mainstream thanks to the hit single "Corazón con Agujeritos." A short time later a stage show featuring the group's characters and music was produced in Buenos Aires, entertaining more than 200,000 in its short run. In 1997 a Brazilian cast was formed and quickly dominated airwaves, selling better than one million copies of their debut record. That same year the original Argentine group performed live at the famous Teatro Gran Rex to an audience in excess of 250,000. Chiquititas' 1998 release became the nation's best-selling record of the year. Their fourth year in production was focal point Romina Yan's last year with the cast. 1999 saw a stylistic overhaul of the successful formula, which offered the program new life and new appeal. Chiquititas enjoyed seven seasons of success, wrapping up in 2006. Its amazing success throughout Argentina and Brazil inspired numerous offshoots, including the show Rincon de Luz and a Portuguese version of Chiquititas going into production in 2007.
