Braves

Los Angeles trio BRÅVES slinked into existence in 2015, gaining some momentum when they were asked by producer Jack Douglas to contribute a song to a documentary he was scoring about the illegal poaching of African elephants. BRÅVES, comprising multi-talented players/vocalists Johnny What and Australian twins Thorald and Jericho of the Wood, crafted "Crush" for the soundtrack, a blurry blend of R&B harmonies and busy electronic drum programming. Soon after, the group released several more singles online, opting for a presentation that offered almost nothing in the way of information about the project outside of its music. BRÅVES presented themselves as anonymous, uncredited musicians with a minimal online presence and took it even further by only publishing dark, obscured photos of themselves wrapped in shadowy cloaks with their faces hidden. Leaning on this more mysterious presentation, BRÅVES' music shifted toward more spare arrangements and videos where the bandmembers did not appear. A self-titled full-length was released in early 2017.
