Ariel View

Built on the chemistry between sisters Harmonie and Heaven Martinez, Ariel View's Cali punk-pop takes detours that make their music more distinctive and relatable. The touches of emo, surf and psych rock -- as well as confessional songwriting with a queer point of view -- on 2019's Until My Lungs Are Cleared introduced the band's fired-up yet vulnerable style. Prior to forming Ariel View, vocalist/guitarist Harmonie Martinez and her vocalist/bassist sister Heaven began playing music together at an early age while growing up in Ontario, California. The band began in 2014, when Harmonie started writing songs and performing at open-mike nights with her friend Dulce Zanabria. When they wanted to add some original songs to their repertoire, Heaven joined them, along with a rotating cast of drummers. The band's energetic, emotional sound drew from vintage inspirations such as the Beatles, the Doors and the Smiths, as well as 2000s and 2010s favorites like the Strokes, the Growlers, and Paramore. Not long after the release of Ariel View's self-titled debut album in 2015, Zanabria left the band. More changes occurred in 2016, when drummer Nadine Parra, who worked with one of Ariel View's former percussionists, joined the fold. The following year, Miranda Viramontes -- formerly of the local band MoonFuzz -- became their lead guitarist. With their lineup set, Ariel View released their heavier second album, Leo, in August 2017. The band's dynamic live shows and recordings attracted the attention of Epitaph, who signed Ariel View and released their official debut album. Produced by Joe Reinhart, Until My Lungs Are Cleared arrived in October 2019.
