André Hazes Jr.

The son of a legendary Dutch vocalist, André Hazes, Jr. has established a successful career of his own as a singer and television personality. His warm, passionate delivery is emotionally affecting whether he's delivering ballads or upbeat pop numbers, and his repertoire is diverse enough that he appeals to a broad range of listeners. After cutting a pair of albums with his sister Roxeanne Hazes, Hazes, Jr. first stepped out as a solo artist on the 2014 release Mijn Beste Vriend, later enjoying great commercial success with 2016's Leef, and dipping his toes into rock and soul material on 2020's Thuis. Born on January 21, 1994, André Gerardus Hazes, better known as André Hazes, Jr. and nicknamed Dré, was the youngest son of levenslied vocalist André Hazes. The young man was thrust into the spotlight when he was just ten years old, speaking at a public memorial service for his father in Amsterdam after his passing on June 30, 2004. In 2007, Dutch television presented a special program honoring the late singer, In duet met Hazes, in which 14 different vocalists sang duets with archival recordings of André Hazes. Hazes, Jr. was one of the performers, and when the soundtrack of the show, Samen met Dré, was released, "Bedankt mijn vriend," his duet with his dad, was issued as a single and rose to the top of the singles charts in the Netherlands. In 2008, Hazes, Jr. made his acting debut on the successful children's television series Kruistocht in Spijkerbroek, and two years later, he and his sister Roxeanne teamed up to cut an album as a duo, Van Jou, Voor Jou. They returned in 2012 with a second release, Samen Solo; this time, in addition to four duets, Hazes, Jr. and Roxeanne each got to sing six solo tracks. Both albums were commercially successful, reaching the Top 20 in the Netherlands. In 2014, Hazes, Jr. made his debut as a solo artist with Mijn Beste Vriend, an album that strove to present him in a more mature light. While the album sold fairly well, it was 2016's Leef that was his breakout effort, rising to number two on the album charts in his homeland during a 35-week stretch on the survey. (That year, he also made his debut as the host of the Dutch game show Rad van Fortuin.) 2017's Wijzer was an even greater success, going all the way to number one and staying on the charts for over a year, and a pair of sold-out concerts in Amsterdam led to a series of performances at Rotterdam's famous Rotterdam Ahoy, where he became the youngest performer to play for over 100,000 patrons. September 2017 saw the debut of the reality show André Hazes: ik haal alles uit het leven, which gave fans an opportunity to look into the star's private life. He also added to his résumé of television work by hosting the music competition show So You Think You Can Sing and a dating show for elderly singles, Golden Boys. Despite this busy schedule, Hazes, Jr. delivered an album in 2018, Anders, which became another number one hit. In 2019, he helped his fans celebrate the holiday season with a Yuletide release, Kerst met André Hazes. 2020's Thuis became Hazes, Jr.'s third album to reach number one, and in 2021 he showed his support for the Netherlands in the European Football Championship tournament with the song "Wij Zijn Oranje."
