Composed of singer Katie Munshaw and the Spencer brothers — Charlie on drums, Alex on guitar and Mackenzie on bass guitar —, Canadian Indie Pop quartet Dizzy brings a second album, The Sun and Her Scorch. Officially forming in 2015, the group blossomed from the longtime friendship between singer Katie Munshaw and Charlie Spencer who decided to sidestep the university path and start a band. Dizzy is the very image of good fellowship, everyone living on their own side. In August 2018, the group released Baby Teeth which lead to their collecting of the Canadian music’s Juno Award: a lucid and already mature album reflecting on minor tragedies and major disappointments of post-adolescence. In the wake of the first one, Katie Munshaw keeps portraying herself in a very personal but still dark way with same knack for impeccable songwriting while lifting by the band’s rich instrumentation — brothers Spencer creating an eternally sunny indie pop sound to compliment her vocals. Though still young in the scheme of things, their ability to juxtapose stark realities and youthful optimism is nothing short of impressive. This second album confirms that Dizzy have found their place and marked their territory.
On backstage side: if the recording also took place in the basement of the house where Munshaw's grandmother resides, it was to do some fine-tuning: « We did a lot of the lead vocals, backing vocals, editing, and experimenting in the basement. It gave us the freedom to spend hours on small details in a song without worrying about studio costs or making our engineer sit around all day. The record wouldn't sound the way it does without the work we did in the basement » says Katie Munshaw. Her sister Beth joined the family affair by providing backing vocals — "she sounds exactly like me" — on Good and Right while the album opens with a voicemail from Munshaw's grandmother on Worms.
