Turun Filharmoninen Orkesteri

Formed in Turku, Finland in 1790, the Turun Filharmoninen Orkesteri prides itself on being the oldest orchestra in Finland. The residence of the orchestra is the Turku Concert Hall which was built specifically for the players in 1952. The orchestra's first chief conductor, Tauno Hannikainen who stood from 1927-1928, paved the way for great conductors of Finnish music, with only 14 people taking the position since 1927, the present being Leif Segerstam who has held the role since 2012. The orchestra has released several recordings, predominantly of Finnish composer Jean Sibelius's works, including the Pelleas And Melisande Suite, Swanwhite and Belshazzar's Feast.
