Tommy Newport

Singer/songwriter Tommy Newport is known for his hooky, falsetto-steeped indie pop. He first garnered buzz with his 2018 debut, Just Be Ironic, while he was still a teenager. Newport continued to develop his sound, releasing a pair of EPs, Tommy Gun (2019) and Ultra Mango (2021), ahead of his dreamy, psych-infused sophomore album, Glasshead (2023). Born Oliver Milmine in Manchester, England, Newport moved to the United States at a young age, eventually settling in Kansas. There, he picked up the guitar and taught himself how to produce music on his computer. Inspired by a mix of early-2000s bands like MGMT, the Killers, and Phoenix, he developed his own funky, psychedelic style of pop, framing his falsetto vocals in bass, guitar, keyboards, and electronic grooves. He began posting songs online and caught the attention of a management company, which signed him while he was still a teenager. In 2018, he released his debut album, Just Be Ironic, which featured the viral hit "I Forgive You." An EP, Tommy Gun, arrived in 2019. More tracks followed, as did musical placements on shows like Search Party, Ballers, and What/If. In 2021, Newport released his second EP, the more psychedelic-oriented Ultra Mango. This more experimental trend continued on the 2023 full-length, Glasshead, which featured standout tracks like the woozy "Sunset for the Dead" and "Jackpot," featuring rapper Jazz Cartier. Additional stand-alone singles arrived later that year, including the funky "Tangerine" and the poppier "Don't Mind."
