Quartuor Diotima

Chamber ensemble Quatuor Diotima was formed in Paris, France in 1996 by graduates of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. One France’s most in-demand string quartets, they perform the works of classic composers – including Beethoven, Schubert, Debussy, Ravel, Bartok, Janáček, and others – as well as premiering music from contemporary composers such as Toshio Hosokawa, Rebecca Saunders, Alberto Posadas, Tristan Murail, Mauro Lanza, Gérard Pesson, and others. Quatuor Diotima The ensemble made their recorded debut alongside Morton Feldman and Carol Robinson on the album Late Works With Clarinet (2003) and worked with Luigi Nono on the album Lachenmanne: Reigen Seliger Geister / Fragmente-Stille, an Diotima (2003). Their first albums under their own name were released in 2008: Durosoir: Quatuors à Cordes and Janáček: Quatuors à Cordes. The ensemble began to gain commercial attention internationally and performed at prestigious venues such as Philharmonie de Paris, Berlin Philharmonie, Cologne Philharmonie, Konserthuset Stockholm, Madrid Círculo de Cámara, Lugano Musica, Granada Festival, the Vienna Konzerthaus and others. In 2019, Quatuor Diotima became the first quartet-in-residence at Radio France, a stint that lasted until 2021. They also toured the United States, South America, Australia, and Asia. As a recording unit, they continued to release albums such as Srnka: Chamber Music (2016), Levick: Remnants of Symmetry (2017), Bartók: Intégrale des Quatuors (2019), Glorvigen: Violent Tenderness - Kykelipi – Polaco (2022), and Ligeti: Metamorphosis (2023), which celebrated the 100th birthday of composer György Ligeti. . Over the course of their career, they’ve been honored with many awards including five Diapason d’Or awards (including two for Best Album of the Year) from French magazine Diapason, plus awards from Classica, Télérama, Gramophone, The Strad, and others. The ensemble’s line-up has included several line-up changes over their nearly three-decade long career and currently includes violinists Yun-Peng Zhao and Léo Marillier, violist Franck Chevalier, and cellist Pierre Morlet.
