Poland
Poland are a Seattle-based chamber pop band whose retro-minded sound draws heavily from acts like the Kinks and the Beach Boys. The core band initially formed around the songwriting of singer/guitarist Mark Bombara in 2006 with singer, co-writer, and longtime friend Mark Romanowski joining a year later. In addition to Bombara and Romanowski, Poland's members include drummer Shane Peck, violinist Janet Utterback-Peck, violinist Karen Halliburton, violist Brianna Atwell, bassist Noah Wilson, and percussionist Nanda Wilson. They released their first two albums, 2007's Tuesdays & Wednesdays and 2008's Schoolboy Crush on Che Guevara, on their own Class M label. In 2008, they signed with Nebraska-based indie Series Two Records to release their third album, Most of Them Are Clockwork and 2009's Please Interstellar Policeman. After leaving Series Two in 2010, the prolific band continued to release richly detailed pop albums again on their own Class M label, beginning with 2011's The Sun and the Sitting Room and 2013's The Colors of the Merchant Star. In 2014, the band signed with British indie Folkwit Records to release their seventh album, The Golden Age of Everything.
