Paula Hartmann

Combining a thoughtful pop approach with hip-hop elements and dark trap leanings, Paula Hartmann's songs capture the zeitgeist of urban life and Gen-Z angst. Kickstarting her career, she appeared as a child actor in films into the 2010s. In 2021, she released her first singles, "Nie Verliebt" and "Truman Show Boot," and signed with Four Music, which released her debut album, Nie Verliebt, in 2022. Collaborations with musicians such as Casper, Haftbefehl, and Trettmann heightened her profile. Her second album, Kleine Feuer, released in March 2024, featured a much darker sound than its predecessor and reached number two on the German charts. Paula Hartmann was born in Berlin, Germany, in May 2001. A boy from the neighborhood who worked as an extra inspired her to become an actor, and soon, she began appearing in TV movies like Der Mustervater 2 - Opa Allein Zu Haus (2007) and theatrical films like Maren Ade's Everyone Else (Alle Anderen, 2009). She also acted in movies like Julie Delpy's historical drama The Countess (Die Gräfin, 2009) and The Manny (Die Nanny, 2015), a comedy directed by and starring German superstar Matthias Schweighöfer, while on the small screen, she appeared in series like Tierärztin Dr. Mertens (2009-2013) and an episode of the crime show Tatort (Angriff auf Wache 08, 2019). Moving to Hamburg in 2020, she began building a second career as a musician, working with producer Biztram (Prinz Pi, Casper) on contemporary pop tracks that she hoped would capture the experiences and anxieties of a young generation. Her first singles, "Nie Verliebt" and "Truman Show Boot," appeared in August and October 2021, respectively, and a 4-track EP titled Fahr uns Nach Hause ("Drive Us Home") followed in November after Hartmann signed with the Four Music label. After two more singles, "Kugeln im Lauf" and "Kein Happy End" (featuring a guest appearance from German rapper Casper), she released her debut album, Nie Verliebt ("Never in Love"), in April 2022. It reached number 20 on the German charts and received critical acclaim. In 2022 and 2023, Hartmann guested on songs by musicians like Haftbefehl ("Geruch von Koks"), Luciano ("Passion"), Céline ("3 Sekunden"), and Trettmann ("Gekreuzte Finger") while continuing to act, appearing in the crime series Decision Game and the hip-hop comedy series Almost Fly (both 2022). In March 2024, she released her second album, Kleine Feuer ("Small Fires"), which continued her coming-of-age stories but with a darker sound and a more pessimistic outlook. The album, which featured guest spots by Trettmann and T-Low, reached number two on the German charts and also hit the Top Ten in Austria and Switzerland.
