Partner Look
Named for the German expression Partnerlook -- when two people dress alike -- Partner Look combine sleek surfaces and jangle in their deadpan indie pop. Consisting of two couples linked by sisters, all of whom played in other bands, the quartet rotated lead vocals on their 2022 debut album, By the Book.
German sisters Ambrin (Cool Sounds) and Anila Hasnain (Lachlan Denton & Studio Magic) and their partners, Dainis Lacey (Cool Sounds) and Lachlan Denton (The Ocean Party), formed Partner Look in Melbourne, Australia in 2018, initially to create a long-distance wedding gift for a friend in Germany. They kept a good thing going, and in 2019, Partner Look played their first official gig in Melbourne at the album launch of Take the Reigns, Denton's collaborative record with Emma Russack.
With Denton on drums and Lacey engineering, the group recorded their debut album in May 2020 in a garage studio at Lacey and Ambrin Hasnain's house. The completed By the Book arrived on Trouble in Mind (in conjunction with Spunk/Osbourne Again in Australia) in early 2022.
