Matthew Rose
Matthew Rose is an English bass-baritone who specializes in operatic roles. He was educated at Seaford College in West Sussex, and pursued vocal studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in the United States. Following his participation in the young artists' program at Covent Gardens, Rose performed in the U.K. at the Royal Opera House, the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, the English National Opera, and the Welsh National Opera, and internationally at La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, the Santa Fe Opera, the Houston Grand Opera, Opéra National de Lyon, Teatro Real in Madrid, and the Bavarian State Opera. He is a frequent soloist in performances of oratorios and other choral works, and he has given art song recitals at prominent venues, including Wigmore Hall. Rose received the John Christie Prize in 2006, the Wigmore Hall/Independent Opera Voice Fellowship in 2007, and the Critics Circle Award in 2012. He has recorded for Stone Records, Signum UK, and Hyperion.
