Lauren Weintraub

Lauren Weintraub created a sharp, flexible synthesis of country and pop, pairing an electronic shine and rhythmic throb with sturdy songcraft. This adaptable blend was showcased on a series of singles in the early 2020s that found Weintraub cleverly teasing gender roles, highlighted by her 2021 debut "She's Mine" and "Like a Boy." She expanded her musical reach with the gilded, slow-burning 2022 singles "Missing You -- a song that earned her a strong online following after it went viral -- and "Not Like I'm in Love with You." A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Lauren Weintraub became infatuated with musical theater as a child -- she played the title role of Annie in three separate productions of the Broadway smash -- but as she entered her teens, she gravitated toward pop and country music. She learned the guitar and started writing songs while she was in high school and after graduation, she enrolled at the Curb College of Entertainment at Nashville's Belmont University in 2017. Early in 2018, Weintraub auditioned to appear on the 13th season of America's Got Talent but she didn't make the cut. She made an impression in Nashville, though. It didn't take long before she started entering Music City songwriting competitions, earning the top honor in the 2018 installment of The Recording Academy's Grammy U contest thanks to her song "Careful Now." Additionally, her "If You Were Gonna Leave Anyway" wound up earning accolades from an NPR Tiny Desk competition co-judged by Jason Isbell. In 2019, Weintraub became the first signing at All BC Music, a joint publishing venture between singer/songwriter Brandy Clark and Big Machine Music. Two years later, she posted "She's Mine" to TikTok, and it quickly became a viral hit, paving the way for the subsequent singles "Me Over You," "Makeup Is Expensive," and "Like a Boy." "Missing You" became Weintraub's second viral sensation on TikTok in 2022, earning her a nomination for iHeart Radio Music TikTok Songwriter of the Year and leading Virgin Music to sign her to a deal that year. The first single she released under that venture was "Not Like I'm in Love with You," which also did well on streaming.
