Kit Sebastian, Halal Cool J, Natureboy Flako
Formed in 2018 by French producer and multi-instrumentalist Kit Martin and Turkish multi-disciplinary artist Merve Erdem, Kit Sebastian is a psych-pop duo whose eclectic mix of Anatolian psychedelic rock with Tropicália and New Orleans jazz garnered praises from the specialized press all over the globe. The pair met via an ad that Martin had put on social media, looking for a vocalist that could sing in Turkish. Erdem responded to the ad and thus, Kit Sebastian was born. They soon retreated to rural France to record what would become their first album. Preceded by the singles “Tyranny 20” and its title track, Mantra Moderne (2019) saw the light of day via Mr. Bongo Records to great critical acclaim, featuring tracks sung in English, French, and Turkish. Recorded on an eight-track using a plethora of analog equipment, the album was conceived in a purely spontaneous fashion, giving each song a deadline of 12 hours to be completed.
