Jean-Pierre Kalfon

Jean-Pierre Kalfon dit Hector (Paris, October 20, 1946 - Pont l'Abbé, February 19, 2020) began his singing career with the group Les Médiators. After an EP, Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On (1963), with two songs written by Jean Yanne and Gérard Sire, including "T'es pas du quartier", he continued on his own, recording two more EPs: Alligator (1964) and Abab L'Arabe (1966), featuring covers by Screamin' Jay Hawkins and Otis Redding. Nicknamed "the Chopin of the twist", Hector was also known for his sense of provocation: after boiling an egg on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier under the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, he performed at the Olympia, opening for The Animals, accompanied by four hens and two ducks. His last recording, a single produced by Dick Rivers, appeared in 1970 as the trio Hector, Tom & Jerry with the municipal harmony of rue de la Pompe. He died of cancer at the age of 73.
