Fejo

Fejo is the stage name of Indian rapper, lyricist, and songwriter Febin Joseph, who helped pioneer the subgenre of Malayalam Rap during the 2010s. Joseph was born in Vytilla, Kochi, and obtained a Bachelor of Technology degree before meeting the American rapper Akon, who became something of a mentor for the burgeoning musician. Christening himself "Fejo," he started releasing original material in 2009, often writing about topics facing the modern generation of Indian Millennials. Championed by Indian stars like Raftaar, Fejo became a popular Mallu rapper amongst fans of the genre, then began attracting a larger audience by contributing songs to a number of Malayalam-language films in the late 2010s. The 2018 movie Maradona featured Fejo's hit single "Aparaada Panka," followed later that year by his performance of "Ayudhameduda" in the movie Ranam. Contributions to the film scores of Athiran, Jeem Boom Bhaa, Kalki, and Under World all followed in 2019, with Fejo often appearing on the movies' soundtracks not only as a rapper, but as a lyricist, too. This success continued during the 2020s, with two of Fejo's songs — "Koode Thullu" (featuring Jeffin Jestin) and "Hey Nima" — both charting on India's Top 200 Shazam list during the summer of 2023. These songs joined list of hit singles that also included "Malsaram Ennodu Thanne," "Theruvinte Kalakaran," "Local Idi," and "Koottilitta Thatha."
