Derek Johnson

Singer, songwriter, and worship Pastor at Jesus Culture Sacramento, Derek Johnson is a passionate artist with a bent toward faith-based pop music rooted in alternative rock and Americana. His Billboard-charting debut, 2015's Real Love, helped push Johnson to the forefront of the worship music scene, and he continued to delight and inspire audiences into the next decade with singles like 2021's "The Way You Love Me" and 2023's "Faith for It" and "King Jesus." An Indiana native, Johnson grew up listening to his parents' '60s and '70s music collection. Initially, he started playing drums, but by age 11, he had switched to guitar as his primary instrument. In 2007, Johnson attended ministry school at Bethel Church in Redding, California. While there, he became involved with the worship team and led student worship sessions. Eventually, he also began working with the Jesus Culture youth outreach ministry based out of Bethel Church. In 2012, he appeared on Jesus Culture's album Emerging Voices alongside other up-and-coming worship artists. In 2015, Johnson delivered his debut solo album, Real Love, which reached number 17 on the Christian Albums chart and number nine on the Heatseekers Albums chart. He followed up on the success of the effort with a string of Jesus Culture Music contributions, including "King of Love" "Power in the Cross," and "Beautiful Day," and in 2023 he issued the solo singles "Faith for It" and "King Jesus."
