CHANSUNG

Chansung, born Hwang Chan-sung on February 11, 1990, in Seoul, South Korea, is a singer, rapper, songwriter, and actor. He embarked on his entertainment career with a role in the 2006 comedy series Unstoppable High Kick. His early acting credits also include the teen drama Jungle Fish (2008), which earned critical acclaim and awards, including a Peabody Award. Chansung's musical journey began after he competed on the show Superstar Survival in 2006, leading to his selection as a member of the Korean boy band 2PM under JYP Entertainment. The group debuted in 2008 with the single "10 Out of 10," featured on their first EP Hottest Time of the Day (2008). Their first studio album 01:59PM was released in 2009 and included hits like "Again & Again." Over the years, 2PM continued to release successful albums including Hands Up (2011), Grown (2013), and No.5 (2015), each peaking within the top spots on charts. They also extended their reach towards Japan, releasing their first Japanese album Republic of 2PM in 2011. The group's track record of hits continued with albums like Gentlemen's Game (2016). After a brief hiatus for military service, 2PM returned in 2021 with the album Must. Chansung also explored a solo career, releasing the EP Complex in 2018. In 2024, Chansung contributed with AK-69 on the song "Into the Fire," which reached number 18 on the Oricon charts.
