Blair Douglas
b. Isle of Skye, Scotland. A Runrig founder member who was actually in the band during two separate incarnations, and graduated quite naturally to keyboards from accordion. The music he now produces solo is atmospheric, soundtrack-influenced work. He made his solo debut in 1984 with the cassette recording Celtology. Four years later he teamed up with Arthur Cormack, Shona MacDonald and Cailean MacLean to record Skye: The Island, a celebration of music and song from the Isle of Skye. The largely self-composed Beneath The Beret (1990) included ‘Kate Martin’s Waltz’, which was subsequently adopted as a modern classic by traditional musicians. In 1993, Douglas joined Arthur Cormack, Eilidh MacKenzie, Alison Kinnaird and Christine Primrose in the Gaelic group Mac-talla. The quintet completed ... Mairidh Gaol Is Ceol the following year. His next solo release, A Summer In Skye, followed in 1996. In 2001 Douglas participated in the writing and recording of Cliar’s remarkable Lasair Dhè project. His new solo album Angels From The Ashes was released through Runrig’s Ridge label in 2004.
