Ayo
Joy Olasunmibo Ogunmakin, who goes by the name Ayo, is a German-born singer-songwriter and actress of Nigerian heritage who first gained attention with the album 'Joyful' in 2006. A hit in France and Germany, it reached number 16 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart in 2007. She learned to play music as a child and developed an interest in singing after her DJ father allowed her to make a demo recording.
After stints in London and Paris, she toured in Germany and opened for Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds on an American tour. Concert album 'Live at the Olympia' was released in 2007 and screened on America's PBS network. 'Gravity at Last' came out in 2008 followed by 'Billie-Eve' (2011), 'Ticket to the World' (2013) and 'Ayo' (2017). She appeared in the 2014 feature film 'Murder in Pacot' directed by Haitian film-maker Raoul Peck and in German director Tarek Ehiall's 'VOLT' (2016). Her 2018 schedule included several dates at the Andy Williams Moon River Theatre in Branson, Missouri and one at the O2 Academy in Newcastle, England. In 2019 she released single 'Beautiful' taken from her sixth album, 'Royal'.
