The Teskey Brothers
The duo of guitarist/vocalist Josh Teskey and lead guitarist Sam Teskey, Australia's the Teskey Brothers are known for their raw brand of rockin' blues and R&B. First garnering attention with their live performances in the late 2000s, they gained wider notice in 2017, when they cracked the Australian Top 20 with their soulful debut album Half Mile Harvest. More acclaim arrived with their sophomore set, 2019's Run Home Slow, which nearly topped the album charts and won three ARIA Music Awards. With 2020's Live at the Forum, the Teskey Brothers earned their first number one album and again took home the ARIA Award for Best Blues and Roots Album. On the heels of this success, they joined Orchestra Victoria for 2021's Live at Hamer Hall before returning with 2023's The Winding Way.
Siblings Josh and Sam started performing as a duo by busking on the streets of Melbourne as teenagers. In 2008, they started playing with bassist Brendon Love and drummer Liam Gough, with whom they grew up and bonded over their shared love of artists like Peter Green, the Animals, Percy Sledge, and others. The Teskey Brothers built a following with a string of pub gigs, playing a mix of gritty rock, blues, and R&B. They also gained valuable experience working as the backing group for singer Ella Thompson. The band eventually signed with Glassnote Records and in 2017 issued their debut album, Half Mile Harvest. A breakthrough for group, it reached number 18 on Australia's ARIA chart.
In 2019, the Teskey Brothers returned with their sophomore long-player, Run Home Slow. Buoyed by the singles "Hold Me" and "So Caught Up," it peaked at number two in Australia and took home three ARIA Music Awards, including Best Blues and Roots Album. The following year, the band topped the Australian charts with the concert album Live at the Forum. The group's first number one in Australia, it also earned them their fourth overall ARIA Music Award and second for Best Blues and Roots Album. Another concert record, Live at Hamer Hall with Orchestra Victoria, arrived in 2021. The following year, Love and Gough departed, with Josh and Sam continuing the Teskey Brothers as a duo. In June 2023, they delivered their third studio album, The Winding Way. Produced in Sydney with Eric J. Dubowsky (Louis the Child, ODESZA, Hamish Anderson), the album found them continuing to dig into their vintage soul sound while also reaching for a more complex sonic palette. Included on the album is the single "Oceans of Emotions."
