Lucille Chung
Canadian pianist Lucille Chung is known for her wide repertoire, which ranges from Mozart to Ligeti, and includes concertos, solo piano works, and chamber music. She gave her first public performance with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra when she was ten years old, and she was invited by Charles Dutoit to join the orchestra on its Asian tour in 1989. She studied at the Curtis Institute of Music, the Juilliard School, and the Mozarteum Salzburg, where her principal teacher was Karl-Heinz Kämmerling. She received a diploma from the Hochschule für Musik "Franz Liszt" in Weimar, where she studied with Lazar Berman and developed an abiding interest in Liszt. She has pursued further studies at Southern Methodist University Meadows School of the Arts, the Accademia Pianistica in Imola, and the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. Chung has won prizes at many competitions, including the Stravinsky International Piano Competition, the Montreal International Music Competition, and the First International Franz Liszt Competition in Weimar. She has performed with major orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Staatskapelle Weimar, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Chamber Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and she has partnered with many chamber musicians, such as Chee-Yun, Ilya Kaler, Vadim Gluzman, Alexander Kniazev, Rocco Filippini, Nicholas Kitchen, and the Takács Quartet.
