Harper and Midwest Kind
British-born, Australian-raised musician Peter Harper -- known simply as Harper -- began touring the U.S. in the mid-'90s, offering up a very distinctive take on the blues. Already a renowned songwriter and harmonica player with several albums to his credit, Harper's incorporation of the aboriginal didgeridoo and tribal rhythms gave his music an unusual worldly flair. During one of his American tours, he began using a Detroit-based backing band called the Midwest Kind. Following a permanent relocation to the U.S. in 2005, Harper began using the Midwest Kind as his primary touring band and the fiery combo quickly became a top festival act throughout the country. The band's first appearance on a Harper record was 2010's Stand Together, his third release for American blues label Blind Pig Records. The independently released Live at the Blues Museum followed in 2012, showing off the dynamic on-stage interplay between Harper and his band. They returned to the studio for 2016's Show Your Love, which debuted at number nine on Billboard's blues chart.
