Funeral Party
Whittier, California’s Funeral Party mixes dance-punk’s surging energy with emo’s anthemic charge. Named after a song by the Cure, the band features vocalist Chad Elliot, guitarist James Torres, and bassist Kimo Kauhola; the trio formed the band to escape their hometown. Inspired by the dance-punk revival in East L.A., Funeral Party played around the area, or tried to play, since many of the shows they booked were shut down before they could perform. They recorded demos at Mars Volta's studio and supported bands such as the Faint and Crystal Castles when they came to town. One of their demos made its way to the French band Yelle, with whom Funeral Party toured the U.S. Slots supporting … And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, Franz Ferdinand, and Julian Casablancas were followed by recording their full-length album, Golden Age of Knowhere, which was released in early 2011.
