Bruce & Bongo

Bruce & Bongo were a Germany-based British pop duo who rose to fame in the mid-80s with their hit single "Geil." Composed of English singer-songwriters Bruce Hammond Earlam and Douglas "Bongo" Wilgrove, who had met while stationed in Germany as soldiers in the British Army, the group made its debut in 1986 with the song "French Foreign Legion." Released later that year, their breakthrough single "Geil" (German for "horny" or "cool") rose to Number 1 on the German charts and stayed there for four weeks. It was also a hit in Austria, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. Shortly after, Bruce & Bongo released their studio debut The Geil Album (1986), which also featured the Top 30 single "Hi Ho (Heigh Ho – Whistle While You Work)." In 1987, the duo released the non-album single "The Best Disco (In the World)," reaching Number 46 in Spain. That same year, they collaborated with Klaus & Klaus on the song "Holidays Are Here Again." After a few years absent from the music scene, Bruce & Bongo returned in 1992 with the single "We Ain't Back," which failed to enter any major European charts. The group would attempt a comeback again in 1998 with a remix of "Geil" featuring British rapper Tony T, but the track enjoyed little success upon its release. The compilation Horny: 1986-2016 - 30 Years! saw the light in 2016.
