Pasha Parfeni
Pop singer, songwriter, and musician Pasha Parfeni was born Pavel Parfeni on May 30, 1986, in Orhei, Moldavian SSR, USSR. He is best known for representing Moldova twice in the Eurovision Song Contest with the songs “Lăutar” (2012) and “Soarele și luna” (2023). He grew up in a musical household – his mother was a pianist, and his father was a guitarist and singer - and began studying piano at a young age. In 2002, he attended Tiraspol Music College and studied voice before continuing his studies at State Academy of Music, Theatre, and Fine Arts. In 2009, he joined the band SunStroke Project, who participated in the national selection contest for Eurovision Song Contest but came in third. Pasha Parfeni left the band to pursue a solo career, where he entered several competitions. He came in first place at the George Grigoriu International Pop Music Festival in May 2009, and placed high in several other contests including the 2009 Slavianski Bazaar, the Mamaia Contest (Romania) and the Golden Stag Festival. In 2011 and 2012, he again participated in the national selection for Eurovision Song Contest but did not win. However, he won in 2012 and represented Moldova with the song “Lăutar.” In 2013, he co-wrote the song “A Million” (performed by Aliona Moon), which was entered into the Eurovision Song Contest that year. Pasha Parfeni entered the Moldovan national selection again in 2020 with “My Wine,” but it came in second place. Three years later he co-wrote “Soarele și luna,” which won the national selection and represented Moldova at Eurovision Song Contest 2023, where he placed 18th. The song was a chart success and climbed to Number 40 in Finland, Number 16 in Lithuania, and Number 15 in Sweden.
