Malamorte

The occult-metal side project of Alessandro Nunziati (Lord Vampyr, Cain, Theatres Des Vampires), Malamorte emerged in 2009 with a sound steeped in the esthetic of classic Hammer Horror films and the sonic deviltry of Mercyful Fate. Debuting in 2014 with The Fall of Babylon, subsequent efforts like Hell for All and Mass Cult Suicide saw the band transition from a more traditional black metal approach to a style that looked to NWOBHM giants like early Judas Priest and Black Sabbath for inspiration. An Italian heavy metal institution, Nunziati found success in the late 1990s as the frontman and co-founder of popular gothic metal troupe Theatres Des Vampires, where he operated under the stage name Lord Vampyr. After leaving the group in 2004, Nunziati began releasing records as Lord Vampyr and founded and fronted the occult-themed acts Cain, Lord Nailed God, and Shadowsreign. He formed Malamorte in 2009, where he continued to hone his blackened, King Diamond-esque brand of Satanic metal. The band debuted in 2014 with searing, black metal-influenced The Fall of Babylon, with the like-minded Devilish Illusions arriving two years later. 2017's Satan Goes to Heaven to Destroy the Kingdom of God adopted a more majestic, doom-laden style that incorporated elements of power metal and NWOBHM, as did its acclaimed follow-up, 2019's Hell for All. 2020's God Needs Evil and 2021's Mass Cult Suicide, both released via Moribund Records, followed suit.
