Indian Jewelry

Crafting a dense, almost unclassifiable, but often melodic sound, Houston, Texas' Indian Jewelry features the core duo of guitarist/vocalist/keyboardist Erika Thrasher and guitarist/vocalist Tex Kerschen. Their other projects included Swarm of Angels, Turquoise Diamonds, Japanix, the Corpses of Waco, the Perpetual War Party Band, and NTX + Electric but the duo's basic sound remained the same, uniting drum machines, drones, noise, and other elements of experimental, psychedelic, industrial, and garage rock into an intense free-form mix. The 2002 Swarm of Angels 7" Plessure was the band's recorded debut on Girlgang Records, which also released output by Indian Jewelry's other incarnations. Kerschen, Thrasher and company released singles as Swarm of Angels and NTX until around 2005, when Indian Jewelry became their main focus. That year, Girlgang issued the CD-R release Sangles Redux, which collected their 2002 to 2004 output. Indian Jewelry released their debut album, Invasive Exotics, in 2006 on Monitor Records, and also appeared on that year's Tigerbeat6 compilation Let's Lazertag Sometime. We Are the Wild Beast, which was originally released as an NTX + Electric album in 2003, was reissued by Tigerbeat6 in early 2008. Indian Jewelry's third full-length, Free Gold!, appeared that May. Totaled, which took the band's sound in a more streamlined, synth-heavy direction, arrived in spring 2010. Two years later, they returned with Peel It, a more meditative set that reflected Thrasher and Kerschen's parenthood and was released by the Reverberation Appreciation Society. On 2015's Doing Easy, the band -- which also included Mary Sharpe and Richard Durham at this time -- delivered some of its most focused yet brain-melting songs yet.
