Fernando Suarez Paz
Fernando Suarez Paz is the world's leading tango violinist.
He was a member of Astor Piazzolla's New Tango Quintet from the 1970s, well before Piazzolla's "tango nuevo" was accepted in Buenos Aires. He participated in the famous "Tango Nuevo" disc that turned things around for Piazzolla and his music, and has continued to play and record both classical and new-style tangos since Piazzolla's death in 1992.
With the growth of interest in Piazzolla by classical musicians and the boom in crossover recordings, Suarez Paz has often been engaged to participate as a session musician in such projects. He is also the leader of the group String for Piazzolla, specializing in Piazzolla's music. Among Suarez Paz's projects is a 2000 release with pianist Daniel Barenboim of music of Carlos Gardel, one of the most famous composers of Buenos Aires tango in the classic era centered on the 1920s.
