Canaan Cox

Nashville singer/songwriter Canaan Cox began releasing music in the latter part of the 2010s, offering up a polished sound that melded the effervescence and energy of pop music with the tonal foundation of country. His soaring 2019 single "When It Comes to You" earned big streaming numbers, which he built on with subsequent tracks like 2022's pop-forward "As You Leave" and the catchy "J.O.Y." Originally from Asheville, North Carolina, Cox grew up in a musical family that schooled him in everything from country icons like Conway Twitty and the bluegrass of Ricky Scaggs to mainstream dance pop. He learned to play guitar, mandolin, and fiddle, then gravitated toward musical theater during his college years. After cutting his teeth as an entertainer on Carnival Cruise Line ships, Cox moved to Nashville, where he continued to develop his amalgam of bright, electronic-laced pop and earnest country music. Early singles like "Long Way Home" and "When It Comes to You" helped him gain some traction, though he still hadn't found that breakout moment. Heading into the next decade, he kept up a steady succession of singles like 2020's "Stay Home" and 2021's "Obvious" before a chance encounter with veteran radio and TV personality Bobby Bones, helped kick-start his career. With some support from Bones, Cox's 2022's track "As You Leave" began racking up big streaming numbers. A few months later, he followed it up with the hooky "J.O.Y."
