Ane Diaz
Ane Díaz is a Venezuela-born, Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist known for innovative, contemporary interpretations of Venezuelan folk songs carefully intersected with indie folk, rock, and pop.
Díaz's family emigrated to the Florida in the U.S. when she was 17. She began singing and playing string and percussion instruments as a child and decided to pursue music early on. As an artist, she has been active since the late 1990s. With Rain and River Phoenix, she played and sang in Aleka's Attic, and she was a bassist in the former's Causey Way. In 1998, Díaz sang backup on R.E.M.'s Monster. In 2001, she founded and fronted indie rock band Producto, who crafted songs in English and Spanish; they released three numerically titled albums between 2002 and 2007. Díaz sang lead, co-wrote songs, and co-produced their first two albums.
In 2018, she self-released the three-track, Rain Phoenix-produced Venezuela EP, and in 2020, she joined the actress's LaunchLeft label and released the acoustic single "Los Ejes de Mi Carreta." Despechada, a full-length collection of ten thoroughly revisioned Venezuelan folk songs chosen by her mother, was co-produced by Jim White, Paul Fonfara, and John Keane and released to international critical acclaim in June 2023.
