7th Ward Shorty

New Orleans rapper 7th Ward Shorty brings a compelling combination of energetic performances and outside-of-the-box lyricism to songs informed by his intense lived experiences. Detailed depictions of rugged street life and struggles with fame showed up on 7th Ward Shorty's 2020 release Big Shorty. 7th Ward Shorty was born Euell Sylvester in 1986. The New Orleans native started out as a gospel performer but evolved to embrace a more commercial rap sound by the time of his 2010 debut project Blue City. The rapper gained steam from there, periodically releasing new tracks like his 2019 single "You Ain't Taking Nothing," made with fellow southern rapper Gunplay, and released second mixtape Stress later that year. In 2020, 7th Ward Shorty released new mixtape Big Shorty. The 12-song collection featured guest appearances from Young God Daddy, and E D Nix, and a closing track based around samples of New Orleans bounce legend Big Freedia.
