Yung Al

Houston rapper Yung Al emerged from a near-fatal shooting with a renewed sense of purpose and drive to create music. Putting all of his energy into rapping, he presented an infectiously melodic rap-singing style with his debut single, "Jungle Freestyle." The song went viral and he soon returned with a full-length mixtape in a similar style on 2018's The Yung Show. Yung Al was born in New Iberia, Louisiana, but grew up on the Southside of Houston, Texas. In 2018, he was shot and nearly died, spending months recovering from his injuries. After he fully recovered, Al put his entire focus on music, telling the story of his struggles and victories through catchy songs with a sung/rapped lyrical style. His first widely popular track was released before the shooting in late 2017. This song, "Jungle Freestyle," was uploaded as a video and eventually streamed millions of time as Yung Al continued releasing new tracks. His first mixtape, The Yung Show, materialized in 2018, and he followed it up the next year with a shorter EP titled Borrowed Time.
