WAX
Cho Hye-ri, better known to the world by her stage name Wax, is a South Korean pop singer. She was born on May 31, 1972 in Seoul, South Korea. Her career in music began in 1998 when she debuted as the lead singer for the rock band DOG. The group released their debut album DOG-1st (1998), which made a splash on the South Korean rock scene with the single "Kyung Ah's Day." After the band disbanded, Wax ventured into her solo career, releasing her first album The Diary of Mom in 2000. The LP included the track "Oppa," a cover version of Cyndi Lauper's "She Bop," which received heavy airplay on South Korean radio. Over the following years, she released various successful albums, such as Fixing My Makeup (2001) and Please (2002), both of which cracked the Top 5 of the Circle Albums Chart. In 2001, she garnered awards including the KBS Singer of The Year Award, MBC Best Top Ten Musicians Award, and the Mnet Best Music-video Award. 2003 saw the release of Wax 4 - Relation, which included the popular track "Grow Sleepy." Wax expanded her horizons by stepping into acting in 2007, taking on the main role in the musical Fixing My Makeup, which was inspired by her song of the same name. She continued her winning streak with a series of well-received albums in subsequent years, including Women Live Off Love (2008), Fall In... (2010), and Now And Forever (2012).
