Tonya Baker

Gospel singer, songwriter, psalmist, and businesswoman Tonya Baker was always surrounded by music as she was growing up, and began performing as a singer at the age of 11 in church choirs and trios, learning traditional gospel while also absorbing the R&B, soul, and pop songs she heard on the radio, all of which has informed her praise & worship albums, which are refreshing, bright, and thoughtfully assembled. Her recording career began as a guest soloist on recording projects for Leon Wilkinson and Friends (1992) and the Littlejohn Brothers Workshop Choirs (1986-1992). She was a member of Keith Leak and DWC (1987-1992), and sang as a member of praise teams and choirs at her church for over a dozen years before launching her own full-time ministry, which found her appearing regularly at church conferences, prayer breakfasts, and concerts throughout the Ohio region. She toured as a background vocalist with Byron Cage, Percy Bady, and Lisa McClendon, among others, and has written songs that have been recorded by Helen Baylor, Tonéx, and others. Baker went on to form her own independent production company, Bakehouse Music Group, and subsequently released two recordings, 2003’s Life in Him and 2005’s Since He Came In, before switching to Kingdom Records for two more albums, 2008’s Special Friend and 2011’s Live Encounter.
