Thomas Heberer
b. 10 May 1965, Schleswig, Germany. Heberer was memorably described by Alex Von Schlippenbach, in whose Berlin Contemporary Jazz Orchestra he made his debut, as ‘our new young trumpet genius’. These were large claims to live up to, but Heberer, a remarkably assured and daring player, knows the jazz tradition and how to apply its history to modern invention. He performs regularly in a duo with bass player Dieter Manderscheid. Their radical reinterpretations of Jelly Roll Morton on Chicago Breakdown won critics awards in Germany. Heberer is also a member of the world famous Instant Composers Pool. He has released solo albums on Poise Records, the label he co-founded in 1996 with Dirk Raulf and Frank Schulte, in addition to several sessions under his T.O.M. pseudonym.
