The Royal Landscaping Society

The melancholy, romantic synth pop of the Royal Landscaping Society emerged from Seville, Spain in 2014 with an eponymous debut album produced by lead singer and multi-instrumentalist Cris Romero. The like-minded follow-up, Means of Production, followed in 2022. By the arrival of the three-track Demo 042014 EP, which included the Power, Corruption & Lies-evoking "Friends and Lovers," the Royal Landscaping Society consisted of founder Cris Romero (vocals, guitars, bass, synths, "machines"), David Vidal (bass), Maria Barrero (synths, string machine), and Fran Torres (guitars). The same lineup appeared on July 2014's The Royal Landscaping Society, their Romero-produced full-length debut. Released on Beko, it included the three songs from the EP. Matinée Recordings later placed the band's ballad "Moon" on their Matinée Idols compilation in 2017. The project was operating as the duo of Romero and Vidal by the time the Royal Landscaping Society song "Profit and Loss" appeared on the limited split EP Vinyl i Parken (Vinylkultur Rekords) alongside songs by Sweden's Butter Utter and Fantasy Postcards in 2021. With intermittent advanced singles appearing as early 2017, the band's by then long-anticipated sophomore album, Means of Production, arrived on Matinée in early 2022.
