The Linda Lindas
The Linda Lindas are an LA-based punk rock band, consisting of guitarists and vocalists Bela Salazar and Lucía de la Garza, bassist Eloise Wong, and drummer Mila de la Garza. The group takes its name from the 2005 Japanese film Linda Linda Linda and is known for promoting cultural diversity and gender equality, with all four members identifying as Asian-American and Latinx. Shortly after forming in 2018, The Linda Lindas were already opening for Best Coast, Alice Bag, and Bikini Kill. In 2019, they appeared in the Amy Poehler-directed film Moxie, also contributing to the soundtrack. After a video of their song “Racist, Sexy Boy” went viral on the Internet, receiving praises from Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello and Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, The Linda Lindas were signed by legendary punk label Epitaph in 2021. That same year, they made their debut on national primetime television on the late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live and dropped the single “Oh!,” which climbed to Number 29 on Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart. Produced by Carlos de la Garza, the father of two of the musicians, the debut album Growing Up charted in the US, UK and Japan and received positive reviews. The next two years saw the band tour stadiums alongside Rancid, The Smashing Pumpkins and Green Day, before returning to the studio to record the album No Obligation (2024), which included a track, "Yo Me Estreso", with "Weird Al" Yankovic.
