The Duskfall
Hailing from the town of Lulea in the north of Sweden, Duskfall was initially formed as an informal side project by guitarists Mikael Sandorf (ex-Gates of Ishtar) and Glenn Svensson in 1999. Quickly deciding to focus all of their energies on the new group, Sandorf and Svensson proceeded to work with a huge number of musicians before settling on a stable lineup consisting of vocalist Kai Jaakkola, bassist Kaj Molin, and drummer Oskar Karlsson by 2001. Displaying a vicious yet melodic death metal style reminiscent of bands like Dark Tranquillity and In Flames, the quintet's debut album, Frailty, featured Magnus Olsson on lead guitar and was released in 2002 by Greece's Black Lotus Records. Clearly in need of a permanent soloist, the band hired shredder Joachim Lindbäck to replace Svensson before recording 2003's sophomore album Source.
