The Darlings
Formed in 2005 in Redondo Beach, California, the Darlings meld melodic blue-collar punk with a vintage rock & roll aesthetic. Led by singer, songwriter, and guitarist Buddy Darling, the band developed a gritty, guitar-driven sound in the vein of Social Distortion and Tiger Army. A year after releasing a self-titled EP in 2008, they were the winners in the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands, and shortly thereafter had their song "What Lies Below" picked up by the Anaheim Ducks, who used the track for their 2009-2010 season promo spots. With this new exposure, the band began touring massively, including spots on the Vans Warped Tour as well as stints with Pennywise and Guttermouth. The band unleashed its first full-length album, The New Escape, in 2011. Three years later, the Darlings delivered their follow-up, the tonally diverse Made of Phantoms, via the Echotone label and continued touring. Live Attack, a 14-track concert set captured in late 2015 at Fullerton, California's Slidebar, was released in 2017.
