The Cyclist
Named after Natalia Goncharova's painting The Cyclist, Andrew Morrison started making lo-fi electronic music under the Cyclist alias at age 18 in his home city of Derry, in Northern Ireland. Influenced by the warm, dusty VCR head aesthetic of Boards of Canada's Geogaddi and the dance beats of Throbbing Gristle and New Order, he used the limited equipment he had in his bedroom recording studio to make his first album, Bending Brass, which was released on cassette by the West Virginia indie label Crash Symbols. Next, he was featured on the Leaving Records/Stones Throw compilation Dual Form, before the two labels teamed up to release his 2013 breakthrough, Bones in Motion. Flourish followed on Dublin's All City label in 2014. The label also issued Love Repetitive Rhythmics, Morrison's first EP under the name Buz Ludzha. The Cyclist's Hot House was released by Music/Is/For/Losers in 2015. The project then signed to Hypercolour, and the 2016 EP Pressing Matters embraced jungle and breakbeat hardcore influences. Morrison further explored these sounds on Jungle Tapes, a Ludzha cassette issued by Tape Throb Records. The label also issued the self-titled debut EP by Affinity Projects, Morrison's lo-fi dance-pop project with vocalist Tanaya Harper. The Cyclist's full-length Sapa Inca Delirium appeared on Hypercolour in 2017. This was followed by Alabaster Thrones, an EP issued by 100% Silk in 2018.
