The Celtic Tenors
Ireland's Celtic Tenors are a popular classical crossover trio who perform a mix of classical music, opera, traditional Celtic songs, folk, and pop. Although the Celtic Tenors officially formed in 2000 when they signed to EMI, the group has its origins in a vocal ensemble called the Three Irish Tenors, who performed on RTE's (Radio and Television of Ireland) Theatre Nights program in the mid-'90s. In 2000, the renamed Celtic Tenors, featuring original members Niall Morris and James Nelson along with Matthew Gilsenan (who took over for Three Irish Tenors member Paul Hennessy), released their self-titled debut album on EMI Classics. They then followed up with a bevy of highly successful albums including 2002's So Strong, 2003's Irish Album, 2005's We Are Not Islands, 2006's Remember Me, and the 2006 DVD Celtic Tenors: Live in Concert. Around 2007, Morris left the group and was replaced by Daryl Simpson. In 2009, the new-look Celtic Tenors, featuring Nelson, Gilsenan, and Simpson, returned with the Americana-themed Hard Times on Compass Records. The trio's sixth studio album, Feels Like Home, appeared on Telarc in 2011. In 2013, the Celtic Tenors released their first holiday-themed effort with Christmas. Timeless arrived in 2015.
