Spotlights
Comprising husband-and-wife duo Mario (guitar, synths, vocals) and Sarah Quintero (bass, guitar, vocals) with drummer Chris Enriquez, Spotlights conjure dense, monolithic atmospheres rooted in doom-laden post-metal and shoegaze. Originating in N.Y.C. and based in Pittsburgh, the trio introduced listeners to their spacious, metallic soundscapes in 2016 with their D.I.Y. debut Tidals. The LP caught the attention of Deftones, who conscripted the group to open for them on their summer tour. Sharing stages with sonic contemporaries like Pallbearer, Pelican, Hum, and Melvins, the band soon found themselves signed to Ipecac, which released their Aaron Harris (Isis/Palms)-produced sophomore long-player, the hefty and aptly named Seismic in 2017. A one-off single, the Allen Epley-assisted "Kiss the Ring," and a remix EP appeared the following year. 2019's full-length Love & Decay, which dabbled in ambient and Krautrock textures, marked the full-time debut of drummer Chris Enriquez. 2020 saw the release of the We Are All Atomic EP, which preceded the band's relocation from Brooklyn to Pittsburgh. The trio touched on themes of death and the afterlife on album number four, 2023's immersive Alchemy for the Dead.
