Soft Error

Coming from backgrounds in both film scoring and electronic music culture, two composer/songwriters known publicly only as Tim and Rupert formed Soft Error in the late 2010s. Soft Error's cloudy origins mirrored their mysterious and often ominous instrumental tracks. Taking equal inspiration from both sides of their respective backgrounds, their early output drew on influences including synth-heavy '80s low-budget horror film soundtracks as well as the more dystopian side of instrumental pop experimenters like Ash Ra Tempel and La Düsseldorf. Soft Error's debut album, Mechanism, arrived in early 2017 on the Village Green label. Recorded at Greenhouse Studios in Reykjavik, Iceland, the nine-song album peppered the group's darkly nostalgic synth sounds with moments that harked back to the curious explorations of the Warp Records roster of the mid-'90s.
