Sindy

Putting a hooky noise pop spin on 1980s and '90s influences ranging from My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth to Sebadoh and Daniel Johnston, Sindy is the project of Swedish singer/songwriter Tom Serner. For another '90s touchpoint, his intimate, breathy delivery can be reminiscent of Elliott Smith. Sindy's full-length debut, Horror Head, saw release in 2021. Before pursuing a solo path, Serner led the theatrical, psych-tinged indie pop group Ruby Empress, which he started in the warehouses and small clubs of Paris in 2015. The band was rounded out by keyboardist Axel Agervi, guitarist Melker Petterson, and drummer Gustav Hyllstam. Based in Gothenburg, they released their debut EP, Empressionism, in 2017, following it two years later with the album Sinbolism (Ruby Records). Serner first emerged as the less-confident Sindy with the self-produced Hits for Kids EP in June 2020 on PNKSLM Recordings. Less than a year later, PNKSLM delivered his first album, April 2021's Horror Head. It was co-produced and mixed with Jacob Haage (El Perro del Mar, HOLY).
