SAKIMA

Using a palette of smooth electronic pop with an R&B feel, Sakima is a British artist known for his overt use of LGBTQ themes and striving to represent a queer voice in mainstream music. Behind his sensual 2017 breakout track, "Daddy," he issued a series of singles and EPs leading up to the 2019 release of his debut album, Project Peach. Growing up in Milton Keynes, Isaac Sakima identified as gay from a young age and later sought to incorporate queer themes into his art. Early singles like "Let the Right One In" and "Energy" revealed a knack for moody synth pop with inviting melodies, though it was a pair of 2017 EPs, Facsimile and Ricky, that brought both critical acclaim and more widespread exposure. The use of Polari -- a type of slang that originated in 19th century theater, circus, and gay subcultures -- in his often-explicit lyrics added an exotic undertone to the lush, sensual electronic pop of tracks like "Happy Hr," "Ur Body," and the hit "Daddy." Additional singles like "Death Is in the Air" and "Apps" appeared in 2018, paving the way for Sakima's first album, Project Peach, in 2019. Later that year, he landed another streaming hit with the single "All Your Secrets."
