S. P. Charan

Sripathi Panditharadhyula Charan (born January 7, 1972 in Madras, India), (known as S.P Charan) is an Indian playback singer, actor, producer and director. Beginning his career singing “Oh Nenje” in 1982 film Darling, Darling, Darling, Charan continued to perform in various Tamil and Telugu language films, working with several well-known composers including M. M. Keeravani and Devi Sri Prasad. In 1996, Charan formed the band Next Generation with childhood friends and playback singers Venkat Prabhu and Premgi Amaren, before making his acting debut in Oonjal (television series), which earning him the Best Actor award at the Mylapore Academy Awards, before venturing into film acting, where he is best known for his performance in the 2008 film Saroja. In 2011, he recorded Ayyayo Nenju with his father, legendary Indian playback singer S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, which saw them collectively awarded the Vijay Award for Best Male Playback singer. Two years later, Charan was featured in the film Pannaiyarum Padminiyum receiving the 2013 Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Male Playback for his song “Enakkaga Poranthaye”. Charan has also recorded several songs in Hindi and Kannada languages, including “Devare Devare” from Chandramukhi and “O Mahaniyare” from Hoomale as well as several independent releases, most notably “Pramidainaa” (2021) and "Naa Madilo" (2022).
